Here are the best of my photos from last night's total eclipse of the moon....

The initial phase seemed to go quite quickly but as totality approached it seemed to take ages to be complete.

I now switched my attention to exposing for the shaded part of the moon rather than the bright area.

The star visible to the right of the moon is I believe 56 Leo, will have to get confirmation of that though.

  2. Mark,

The imaging bit tends to become an obsession really, I was concentrating so much on getting some photos last night that I missed the atmosphere of it all and didn't get a closeup view through any of my scopes.

So it's a bit of a double edged sword really.

You can pick up some real bargains on eBay for 35mm SLRs that 10 years ago would have cost a fortune.

But of course digital is far better in terms of learning what works and doesn't in terms of exposure and general experimentation.

I bought the 350D last year to replace my Canon A1 which I bought in 1983! And the 350D has already been superceded by the 400D, this of course means that 2nd hand prices should be low.

So best advice is get something cheap off eBay to start off with!

Sorry for the ramble but I don't want you thinking that you're missing out.

    cheers

  4. Hi Mark,

Been busy moving house for the last few weeks, been at the new place for just over 2 weeks now.

So the scope hasn't been unpacked yet and I have so much to do so haven't had the time to update the blog. I have noticed though that Venus is nice and high in the sky early on and there's an opportunity to get a photo of the Moon, Venus and the Pleiades in the same frame on Thursday?

Will try to get back into things very soon.

    cheers
    Mitch
